چکیده

The relatively low height of antennas on communicating vehicles in Vehicular Ad Hoc Networks (VANETs) makes one hop and as well multi-hop Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication susceptible to obstruction by other vehicles on the road. When the transmitter or receiver (or both) is a Tall vehicle, (i.e., truck), the V2V communication suffer less from these obstructions. The transmission power control is an important feature in the design of (multihop) VANET communication algorithms. However, the benefits of choosing a Tall vehicle when transmission power is varied are not yet extensively researched. Therefore, the main contribution of this paper is to evaluate the impact of transmission power control on the improved V2V communication capabilities of tall vehicles. Based on simulations, it is shown that significant benefits are observed when a Tall vehicle is selected rather than a Short vehicle as a next V2V communication hop to relay packets. Moreover, the simulation experiments show that as the transmission power is increasing, the rate of Tall vehicles that are selected as best next V2V communication hop is significantly

TVR - Tall Vehicle Relaying in Vehicular Networks

Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) communication is a core technology for enabling safety and non-safety applications in next generation Intelligent Transportation Systems. Due to relatively low heights of the antennas, V2V communication is often influenced by topographic features, man-made structures, and other vehicles located between the communicating vehicles. On highways, it was shown experimentally...

Power Allocation In Cooperative Relay Channels

This paper concerns power allocation in relay-assisted wireless channels for two-hop transmission. First, the transmitter sends the information to both the relay and receiver parts. Next, in the second hop, the transmitter cooperates with the relay to increase the received signal to noise ratio (SNR), assuming the relay makes use of the Amplify and Forward (AF) strategy. Moreover, it is assumed...

Throughput Maximization for Multi-Slot Data Transmission via Two-Hop DF SWIPT-Based UAV System

In this paper, an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) assisted cooperative communication system is studied, wherein a source transmits information to the destination through an energy harvesting decode-and-forward UAV. It is assumed that the UAV can freely move in between the source-destination pair to set up line of sight communications with the both nodes. Since the battery of the UAV may be limite...

A novel efficient power-saving MAC protocol for multi-hop MANETs

Following recent advances in the performance of ad hoc networks, the limited life of batteries in mobile devices poses a bottleneck in their development. Consequently, how to minimize power consumption in the Medium Access Control (MAC) layer of ad hoc networks is an essential issue. The power-saving mode (PSM) of IEEE 802.11 involves the Timing Synchronization Function to reduce power consumpt...

Directional Forwarding in Multi-hop Wireless Ad hoc Networks: A Connectivity Study

Directional forwarding is useful in wireless ad hoc networks, by which the next-hop neighbors are restricted to a directional sector at a specific angle. For example, opportunistic forwarding can avoid duplicate transmissions by selecting a subset of forwarders in a certain direction. Also, emerging directional antenna design enables directional forwarding to improve signal quality, avoid inter...
